This client has been focused on building a high-class in-house software development capability to further enable their digital acceleration journey. They came to Endava with the request of creating a framework of best practices that can support the organic growth of a 600+ internal software team. This initiative would therefore drive the customer’s sector-leading technological capability.

As a result of partnering with Endava, the company’s technology team has already scaled to 200+ in two years and with the foundations and initiatives in place are expected to reach 380+ by the end of the year. There are now 15 teams working on 13 products and continuously delivering value at regular intervals and obtaining feedback.

This customer, a leading global mining group, focuses on finding and processing mineral resources. The task at hand

With the rapid advancement of digital technology and incredible volumes of data generated every minute across their global operations, the company’s digital ambition is to rethink how the organisation integrates data and technology across the entire value chain to better enable fast, forward-looking insights and real-time decisions to improve safety, productivity and commercial performance. The creation of the in-house product development team will be core to them being more responsive to the needs of the business, external communities and overall delivering incremental value faster.

Shifting the business focus

To drive digital acceleration, our team of experts repositioned the business strategy away from typical procedure and rather homed in on understanding and meeting customer needs, obtaining continuous feedback, and ensuring the internal team felt comfortable with testing and learning to improve all business processes.

 

Using agile principles in all facets of the business also contributed to advanced collaboration and productivity. Implementing a scaled agile framework enabled the thorough definition of processes and provided artefacts that will evolve to support the projected 45 agile feature teams at full scale. Establishing a Design Thinking and DevOps mindset throughout the business was also vital in establishing the right foundations.

 

Ensuring the business gets to its 600+ internal development team meant building a People Development and Recruitment function that could scale overtime. Instilling culture within the team allowed recruitment efforts to be well received by candidates and therefore amplified the brand and its internal capability.

 

The Graduate program was additionally enhanced to better align to new technology capabilities and opportunities and thus drawing in higher calibre talent from the bottom up. Mentorship and training programs were also established to support the team’s career aspirations. A total restructure of the senior leadership team was additionally necessary to sustainably support the new business growth strategy.

Laying the foundations for continued growth

As a result of partnering with Endava, the company’s technology team has already scaled to 200+ in two years and with the foundations and initiatives in place are expected to reach 380+ by the end of the year. Attrition rate is an all-time low, <5%, due to high employee satisfaction and company benefits. This has additionally contributed to an increase in overall brand awareness and internal capability. There are now 15 teams working on 13 products and continuously delivering value at regular intervals and obtaining feedback. Many other business benefits include:
