Partnering With Grays to Overhaul Its Auction Site’s UX
Challenge
Grays, a leading auction site in Australia, strived to deliver a world-class user experience (UX) across its fleet of digital products. However, with no dedicated team in house, the organisation needed support to execute its plans.
Outcome
With our support, Grays delivered data driven improvements on the product page, improved its UX and reimagined the brand through the creation of a comprehensive design system.
Grays, a large industrial and automotive marketplace, partnered with Endava unlock best practice user experience and design thinking across its digital products.
Without a dedicated UX team in house, Grays sought technical and strategical expertise to make the desired improvements to its digital products. It brought in our experience and product design experts to augment its teams and provide services from scope and refinement through to delivery.
Through a close and collaborative relationship, we were able to support and deliver valuable results.
Streamlining from paper to digital
The project began with a significant transformation of the book-in process, in which assets are listed on the Grays website. Beginning with stakeholder UX workshops, we facilitated a range of design thinking activities to uncover the existing process’s problems and opportunities.
The team then created a service blueprint, identifying significant manual work and time delays caused by the existing process. After working through the roles and jobs to be done we conducted an ideation session around UX and business process.
Contextual interviews were then conducted to view the book-in process firsthand. We validated our assumptions with staff and sourced further ideas for improvements. After presenting initial user flows, we collaborated to create an interactive prototype, which was user tested with existing staff to ensure the usability of the new digital product.
New platforms to unlock opportunities
The final, responsive web-based platform can be used to complete the inspection of an asset, take photos and submit an asset listing. This has dramatically streamlined a key process to enable the auctions to go live. Key results included:
- UX design for five digital products
- Grays launched its first design system
- User tested 20+ staff to improve internal products
- Increased alert notification sign-ups by 100%
- All Grays staff empowered with UX training
We also worked in an augmented model with Grays’ developers to build the front-end for many of their platforms and part of their design system, as well as providing solution architecture on key scoping initiatives.
As part of our continued collaboration, we supported Grays with its venture into the marine market, through custom landing pages, email collateral and an all-new digital experience for customers to sell boats.
