With over 11,000 Endavans across 25 countries, we continue our geographical expansion and diversification. The continued scaling of projects and accounts drives our growth, while our distributed agile delivery model provides for a multi-site delivery approach.

Choosing the location for a new delivery centre isn’t an easy task, so we asked Nick Madge, our Global SVP Delivery Acceleration Strategy, for some insights into why Nottingham has been selected to set up an Endava office.

Q: Hi, Nick! Where better to start our chat than asking ‘why Nottingham’?

Nick: We are scaling and growing our people footprint and revenue year on year – the Endava model works! Our approach to delivery location scouting has always been about finding cities worldwide that give us access to great talent, proximity to clients, and a culture that facilitates our agile delivery approach, while also giving us a chance to be impactful in the local communities.

With our growth comes the opportunity to explore broader engagement models and build stronger partnerships with our clients – new and existing. The opening of a delivery location in Nottingham is a natural next step to support our UK clients in delivering their outcomes.

Q: So, what were the specific criteria you considered when selecting Nottingham as a new location in the UK?

Nick: Great talent, first of all – we love to work with, support, and nurture the best tech talent.

Great talent is right on the doorstep in Nottingham, with not one but two world-class universities full of eager graduates ready to start their careers in the technology sector. We always look to build strong and supporting relationships with universities – there are 75,000 students in Nottingham and over 26,000 studying STEM subjects.

With Nottingham’s digital technology sector employing over 36,500 people, it has become a real hub for tech enthusiasts and companies alike. The city is the home of several large companies and well-known brands, such as Capital One, E.ON, Boots, Experian, Unidays, and Specsavers. This means that the first Endava UK delivery centre will be close to a number of existing clients as well as potential new ones.

Nottingham is well linked to both the north and south of England as well as to international transport networks, so this will be great for connecting with UK clients, as we want a location our clients can visit to experience the Endava culture.

Q: You also mentioned that Endava is looking for a location where it can support and encourage the local community? How do you see this in Nottingham?

Nick: Community and charity events run throughout the year, and it is easy for a company and its people to get involved in causes they’re passionate about.

We also like to share our experiences, engage the tech community, tell our stories as well as sponsor local events to get more people interested in technology.

Nottingham is the biggest ‘small city’ in England and set to become the first carbon-neutral city in the UK – it would be great if Nottingham could leverage our tech expertise to support this aim.

Q: So then, what are your aims and growth plans for this new Endava location?

Nick: We’ve been growing organically and have a small team now, but we have several open roles, and more will follow in the coming weeks and months. We’re focusing on providing roles with close client links, for example DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Project Management, Business Analysis – these are all roles we feel can support and nurture our clients throughout their journey with us.

I expect more roles and skills to be needed as our clients see the value in having close support for the work we’re doing together.

Additionally, we’re open to mobility – one of Endava’s greatest strengths as an employer is creating opportunities for people to experience working in different Endava locations in the world. We’ll be bringing other Endavans to Nottingham to support the growth and embed our culture as well as to enjoy all Nottingham has to offer outside of work.

With Nottingham’s great transport links, Endavans from all over the UK can come and join this delivery centre with minimal disruption.

Q: What should Endava clients keep in mind about this new UK delivery location?

Nick: We’re rightly proud of the work we do for our clients, and for them to be able to see it happening, being able to work closely with part of the team is a natural step in strengthening those relationships. There’s great talent in the UK and great people in Nottingham – people who share the same values as we do: smart, thoughtful, trusted, adaptable, and open.

Nottingham is known for being one of the six science cities and has quickly become a technology hub for the UK. This, paired with the great transport links, is why Endava can easily work closely with clients to deliver their every need.

Q: What would be the experience of Endavans working and living in Nottingham?

Nick: Nottingham is a wonderful city, with a history and culture all its own. It’s the Rebel City – from fighting the King’s forces in the civil war to Robin Hood and Brian Clough. It’s a city of castles, caves, music, and technology. The river Trent runs through it, and sport is in its veins. The work will always be interesting, working with clients solving challenges, offering solutions. You’ll get to showcase the best of Endava.

With so much to see and explore, an Endavan’s weekend can be as fun and jam-packed as their working week. From historical sites and museums to sports and plenty of green spaces – in fact, over 30% of Nottingham is made up of green space – there really is something for everyone. The cost of living in Nottingham is significantly lower than in London – around 20% lower, in fact – with rent prices being 200% lower than in the capital. Less money spent on rent means more flexibility to explore the city and all that it has to offer.

Q: What can you share about the new office space?

Nick: I’m pleased to announce that our space is being made ready in the heart of the Lace Market. As a company, we’re moving towards a hybrid working model, and the space reflects that – we have our own space, but we want people to be free to make their choices about spending time there. We want the space to be the heart of the delivery team, a place to share and learn, a place to support each other and share experiences.

We have already seen 30% growth in the Nottingham technology sector within the past five years, and we believe it will continue to grow at a steady pace, proving Nottingham to be an excellent location choice for a new delivery centre.
