Deutsche Bahn and Endava provide new video-on-demand offering on ICE trains
From July onwards, Deutsche Bahn passengers can look forward to an improved entertainment offering in its Intercity Express (ICE) portal. Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Endava collaborated to develop a video-on-demand (VOD) platform with a wider variety of new and diverse movies and shows. Passengers will be able to watch these on their own devices when connected to the Wi-Fi networks, Wifi@DB or WIFIonICE, on more than 330 ICE high-speed trains.
For travellers, the collaboration with Endava mean a user interface improvement and further development of the film and series offering with modern features to provide an attractive VOD experience on board the trains. By integrating the service into the ICE portal, users can play videos directly in their browser. This offering will be available for free and without the need to log in, with the video content being stored on a server on each train.
With Endava’s support, passengers gain a wider content offering due to a bigger and more frequently changing film and series selection, which will be available in various languages including subtitles and audio descriptions.
“We are happy that Deutsche Bahn chose us as their video-on-demand partner, and that we will be able to prove our industry experience, cultural match, and technical excellence while staying true to one of our core values – to care for our clients as individuals.” – John Cotterell, CEO Endava
Stefanie Berk, Marketing Director, DB Fernverkehr: “Come July, we will be able to make the ICE portal even more attractive with Endava’s new video-on-demand offering. Our aim is to provide our passengers with an always diverse and enjoyable entertainment service on our trains.”
With extensive experience in providing video-on-demand solutions for big media and broadcast companies, Endava provides bespoke technical solutions. We helped DB improve their content and cloud management to offer its travellers fresh, diverse, and easy-to-access in-train entertainment. The solution involves front-end development and integration into existing portals, back-end streaming, a CMS and encoding, content sourcing and continuous operations, monitoring, analytics, and customer support.
