Market Leading Insurance Provider
Our customer is a one of the world’s leading insurer groups, with headquarters in the UK and operations in over 30 countries around the globe. This case study describes their initiative to build a complex quotation system for which they have chosen Endava as Lead Integrator.
The Objective
In July 2010, a leading insurance provider engaged with Endava to build a web-based quotation system for internal use, to automate the quote management system for its commercial lines offerings. The system would help underwriters standardise the way they create quotes, while increasing efficiency and turn-around time for a quotation.
The system would also enable the Pricing team within the customer’s organization, to improve the way they monitor and adjust rating factors to gain a competitive edge in the market.
Our constant vision sharing was crucial to keeping an eye on the target. Endava kept close contact with teams from other suppliers that provided hosting, authentication services or auxiliary data such as geo-location. These cross-functional experts worked closely together to ensure integration of different modules and technologies that would support the system.
The Solution
Endava was selected on the basis of a strong, proven, track record in software development and their distributed agile approach to building cost effective, solutions.
Endava’s project team worked closely, in partnership with the customer’s team to create a solution that would become fit for purpose and easily pass user acceptance testing.
By tightly coupling the business and development roles into a cross functional team, Endava and our client were quickly able to build a prioritised list of requirements. After initial stages of implementation it was concluded that the product could be expanded to service multiple needs within the customer’s organization, by developing, on top of the same technical foundation, a module for each of its business lines (property, marine etc) This meant that more time and effort could be invested into the solution.
The Agile approach by Endava and our client ensured that the system could be deployed rapidly, that focus was always kept on the value added functionality that can provide key business benefits.
Endava and our client’s User Acceptance team worked very closely to ensure both quality of service and performance within agreed NFRs. This involved sharing multiple test environments, test data and working hand in hand to identify and fix last minute changes.
The Results
After ten months from the start of the build, the system is live with the first insurance product servicing a team of users within the customer’s organization. The next product has begun the implementation phase expanding the solution even more, while other products are lined up for implementation.
The continuous and rapid scoping, designing, building and delivering of the solution enabled the client to quickly identify not only key benefits for the first deliverables, but also strategic advantages that can be built in future products as well.
The robust and scalable base for further development has been set, with the client now looking to expand the programme from an UK targeted system to one that would benefit the organization on an international level.
