Skopje is the capital city of Macedonia, a land of mountains and lakes at the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, bordered by Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Bulgaria and Greece.

Since becoming independent in 1991 from the former Yugoslavia, Macedonia has successfully built a strong business friendly culture, working in recent years to harmonise important legislation with the rest of Europe and achieving high rankings for ease of doing business as a result. With direct flights from London and good connections via Vienna and Zagreb and a Central European Time Zone (GMT+1), Skopje is ideally placed to serve the Western European and North American markets.
Skopje is home to a population of approximately 600,000 residents and boasts an ICT sector of approximately 8,000. Over the last few years the main university St Cyril and Methodius and others have worked hard to establish a strong computer science faculty to drive and support the fast growing IT sector. The education system is now producing approximately 800 graduates a year and this continues to increase year on year.
The main language is Macedonian but English is taught in school from an early age and is the default business language for international businesses.
Visitors might be surprised to see red double decker buses on the streets of Skopje. And those who have time to escape Skopje can find places like the beautiful Ohrid not too far away. Ohrid, a UNESCO World Heritage site, sits on Lake Ohrid in the south of Macedonia and is one of the oldest human settlements in Europe.
