Iasi

Located in North Eastern Romania, Iasi is the historic capital of the Moldavia region. lasi is home to the oldest higher education institute in Romania and 7 universities in total, and is the birth place of many of the leading cultural movements of 19th century Romania. The city is now rebranding itself in the 21st century as an education and technology hub, with a focus on IT. 

Iasi is home to over 380,000 permanent residents. Most of the city’s youth boast excellent English and other foreign language skills. The IT market in Iasi is around 7,000 people strong, while the local universities release over 800 IT graduates per year. Iasi has established itself as one of the largest and most influential IT centres in Romania through community driven, industry supported events such as Codecamp.ro, agile/lean meet-ups.

The growth of IT in Iasi has been driven by its excellent education infrastructure, including the oldest theoretical university in the country and the first engineering school in Romania - currently the city’s main technical university. With over 85,000 students, Iasi is a regional centre that attracts talent from the entire area, with many young people coming to study or work in Iasi. 

One of greenest cities in Romania, Iasi’s architecture is shaped by long boulevards, lined with neoclassical buildings and linden trees. The local cultural life is a mixture of prestigious institutions, such as the first theatre in Romania, and a growing contemporary culture scene. Iasi is also becoming more accessible than ever – its airport connects to most European capitals and is currently undergoing a major upgrade.
